
EcoTek (Tanzania) Ltd Founder – Flora Ismail Tibazarwa is a plant scientist with an MSc in Forest Ecology and PhD in Experimental Botany and several years of leadership experience in Science Technology and Innovation. A seasoned academic from the University of Dar es Salaam, Flora has been life sciences director at the national science and technology think tank and held several advisory roles in parastatal and private sector organisations.
Flora brings regional experience in innovation support and a rich network to EcoTek. She worked for more than four years in the Southern Africa Development Community region, promoting regional collaboration and strengthening national innovation ecosystems. Flora worked closely with national entities in Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia with guidance and support from the SADC secretariat and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland.
Flora’s core research and development competencies are in setting the strategic direction in Agriculture, health, biotechnology energy, infrastructure, water, education, governance and environment for sustainable development and competitive economic growth. Her experience in innovation for economic development and strategic foresight facilitate the work she does.
Flora is a seasoned team leader and player and advisor whose experience and interests span from project-based environmental impact assessment, ecological risk assessment to abiotic stress tolerance in crop and non-crop species. Her expertise in environmental and ecological risk assessment is recognised within and outside of Tanzania, as she has been an essential resource person in training different stakeholder groups on modern biotechnology.
Environmental and Social impact assessment is a core part of the work EcoTek (Tanzania) Ltd does. Flora’s has led and participated in several environmental and social impact assessment exercises in Tanzania and the East African region.
